      There are lots of plants, most of the plants that we see do need soil so that they can take up nutrients from the ground and have a fixed position to absorb the sun, but some plants survive quite happily living off other plants or in the sea or growing in the gaps between rocks and buildings. A good example of this is Mistletoe which attaches itself to a tree and takes nutrients and water from the tree.
