Everybody is a little bit responsible, even if accidentally. Lots of very tiny bits of plastic (called microplastics) actually come from our clothes when we wash them and are flushed out of the washing machine, into the sewers and out to sea. Also, there might be cases when some of our rubbish that we think is going to the right place is actually not being handled responsibly (we sell lots of our recycling to other countries to make new products, but not all of it is used).
The only way to be sure that we are not throwing litter into the ocean is to use less disposable products, don’t buy plastics that you use once and then throw away, and reuse and recycle as much as you can.
