Sort of! There is a certain amount of global warming that we have already done and committed to, and this adds up to about 1.2°C by the end of the century if we stop emitting today.
Global warming is caused by greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, forming a thick blanket in our sky to trap more heat inside the Earth. So…. what if we could take some of that carbon dioxide out of the sky? That’s a plan called ‘carbon capture and storage’ (catchy name). Scientists are planning on sucking the carbon dioxide out of the sky and storing it deep deep underground so that it can’t escape ever again. It’s a very expensive thing to do though, and no country really wants to be the first one to spend all that money to do it. But it is possible. The easiest method, by far, is to reduce our future emissions.
