Diseases come from bacteria, fungi and viruses that can infect us and do damage. And plants get diseases too!

We need homes and food to eat. So do bacteria and microbes – and sometimes they decide to make their home in a person or a plant! There are lots of different types of bacteria – some are good, like the good bacteria that live in our bellies and help us to digest our food. Others are bad for us – like the bacteria that make you throw up if you get food poisoning. Some diseases can spread from person to person (or animal to animal, plant to plant, or a mixture!)

Lots of diseases are very rare now because we are lucky to live in a nice clean society, and have vaccines to protect us too 🙂
