It’s my favourite thing in the world! It’s so diverse too. I’ve just got back from a few days fieldwork in the Yorkshire Dales, over the next few days I’m working with some satellite data and then over the weekend traveling to meet someone about working together on a project. My favourite part though is definitely this sort of thing – getting to talk to people who are enthusiastic and love science.

I enjoy being a scientist. It’s great to understand what is going on in the world and beneath your feet. I’m a chartered geologist and spend most of my time looking at geological maps and trying to understand what’s happening 1m, 10m, 50m and 100m beneath my feet, which you can’t possibly know for sure. It’s really interesting trying to figure out what’s going on.

Yes I love it! It doesn’t really feel like a job a lot of the time. I love that the more we know, the more we realise how much we don’t know yet. Every time you discover something it makes you want to know more. The days are so varied, I could be in the lab doing experiments, in the glasshouses looking after plants, at conferences meeting other scientists and telling them about my work, writing about science, or sometimes teaching people at schools and university about science… I’ll never get bored!

I love it too – I could never be anything else (although it isn’t always glamorous or exciting!) It helps that I’m working in a great industry too – there are so many interesting roles (and people) in water.
