      I don’t do experiments in the lab for my job, but I do field testing. This is like an experiment but involves a lot more mud and fewer bunsen burners. My favourite test is the Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (TRL-DCP), where you walk along the route of a new road and at selected locations you drop a weight onto a spike and measure how far that weight drives the spike into the ground. It doesn’t sound very exciting but you get to spend a day outside and get some free exercise at the same time.
