Lots of people made the internet into what it is today! It’s a very collaborative project, and there are millions of people responsible for making it awesome. The person who first thought of the idea of making the internet is a man called Tim Berners-Lee, and he set up all of the structures for people to come along and make it awesome.

Tim Berners-Lee was the man behind the world-wide-web, released in the 1990’s, and that’s what we think of as the internet today.
But a man called Leonard Kleinhock gets the credit for the original idea of the internet! Back in 1961 he wrote a paper about ‘information flow in large communication nets’ which is pretty much what the internet is… sending information over a huge network! The first email was sent in the 1970s, but it took another twenty years or so before it was something that everyone had in their homes. We didn’t have a computer at home until I was in high school! 🙂
